The Thomas A. Dooley Award honors individuals who, through their faith-based background, have demonstrated personal courage, compassion and commitment to advance the human and civil rights of lesbian and gay Americans. The highest honor that GALA bestows, it is named for the gay, former Notre Dame student, Dr. Thomas A. Dooley III (1927-1961), who achieved world fame for his humanitarian activities while serving in the Navy in Southeast Asia.
GALA is pleased to announce that the
2010 Tom
Dooley Award will be going to Sister M.L. Gude, CSC. Sister M. L. has done more for GLBT students at Notre Dame and St. Mary’s than anybody else in history. Countless students have come to her over the years for support, guidance, and advice. She has tactfully and tirelessly worked with the administration on behalf of the GLBT community on top of her other administrative duties.
